Policy & Regional Representation Intern
Join GOGLA's Policy & Regional Representation Internship
Are you interested in energy markets, policy trends, and regional engagement? Join GOGLA in Kenya to support research, stakeholder engagement, and key convenings across the off-grid solar and DRE sector.
Role: Policy & Regional Representation Intern
Preferred Location: Nairobi, Kenya (Hybrid)
Reporting to: Policy Manager
Type: Paid internship – short-term (12 months)
Application deadline: 25 June
Role Overview
GOGLA is seeking a motivated graduate intern or early-stage professional to support the Policy and Regional Representation Team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in public policy, international development, or the off-grid energy sector.
We are looking for a candidate with strong written communication skills — who can synthesise information into clear, compelling content, develop well-structured narratives for different audiences, and provide support for the team’s wider policy engagement programme. You will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and must be able to demonstrate the right to work in Kenya.
What you’ll do
You will support the Policy and Regional Strategy team across two core areas, tasks will include:
Policy Analysis and Synthesis
Research & Analysis: Monitor geopolitical, market and policy trends across GOGLA’s priority regions to assess risks and opportunities for the off-grid solar and DRE sector. Conduct targeted research on policy and regulatory developments and translate findings into clear, actionable insights for GOGLA and its members.
Reporting & Briefings: Produce high-quality briefings, country updates and background notes that distil complex policy and regulatory developments into concise, data-driven insights. Contribute research inputs for reports, white papers and presentations to support evidence-based advocacy and decision-making
Regional Engagement & Liaison: Support GOGLA’s regional engagement by collaborating with partners and stakeholders, preparing materials for regional working groups, consultations and convenings, and helping ensure members stay informed of emerging developments.
Knowledge Management: Maintain and strengthen GOGLA’s regional policy repository and country briefs by systematically collecting, organising, and updating key policy and regulatory resources.
Events and Logistics
Providing logistical and administrative support for dialogues, policy roundtables, workshops, and webinars — including developing and managing meeting invitations, agendas, presentations, notes, and event reports.
Supporting coordination of the Regional Working Groups.
Providing general administrative and operational support to the association as needed.
Providing logistical support for the Community of Champions (COC) in person meetings
What you’ll gain
Hands-on experience within a leading international industry association.
Exposure to the challenges and opportunities facing off-grid solar companies, including policy, financing, consumer protection, and e-waste.
The opportunity to represent GOGLA’s members in meetings with donors and government policymakers.
Experience advocating for enabling policy and regulatory environments in a fast-growing sector.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in development cooperation, public policy, political science, international relations, economics, or a related field.
Right to work in Kenya.
Job related competencies
The following competencies are required for this role.
Writing and Content Development: Able to write clearly in English and distil technical information into accessible content for a range of audiences — with a strong eye for structure, tone, and clarity.
Synthesis and Analytical Thinking: Have a track record in gathering information from multiple sources, identifying what matters, and presenting it in a coherent and useful form; are comfortable working with policy documents, research, and data to draw out relevant insights.
Message Development and Communications Planning: Know how to frame information — identifying key messages for different stakeholders.
Organisation and Delivery: Are pro-active, well organised, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment; can demonstrate project management skills.
Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style; comfortable operating in an international and entrepreneurial environment.
Digital Proficiency: Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Policy and Sector Awareness: Have an interest in the energy access space, market-based solutions and how national and regional government policies affect sustainable development and the private sector.
Languages: Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French, is seen as an asset
