Contracted · Valencia

Location: Preferred in Valencia, Spain ( hybrid)
Reporting to: Senior Communications Manager
Contract type: Freelancer - Collaboration until the end of the year

About the job

GOGLA is the global association for the off-grid solar energy industry. We represent and support companies delivering clean, affordable, and high-quality solar products and services to households and businesses across the globe. Through advocacy, data, and strategic communications, we work to scale sustainable energy access.

The Role

GOGLA is looking for a Communications Assistant to join our small, busy communications team. If you're someone who likes to keep things organized, enjoys the process of making content actually reach people, and wants to understand how international organizations communicate, this one's for you.

The communications assistant will be working across everything comms-related, from content and brand management to post-event photography organizing. You'll be part of the behind-the-scenes systems that keep it all running. It's varied, it's hands-on, and it's a real foot in the door for a career in communications, with the added bonus of working on something that genuinely matters.

Everything will come together in October at the Global Off-Grid Solar Forum and Expo (GOGSFE) that we’re organizing in Rwanda. You will join us there to support seamless event communications with all our partners and sponsors.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Content Organization & Digital Asset Management

  • Organize and maintain GOGLA’s content library (reports, blogs, case studies, images, videos, social media assets, and presentations).

  • Tag and categorize photographs in Starchive, our management platform, ensuring images are searchable and consistently labeled.

  • Curate and develop thematic image collections for strategic reuse.

  • Maintain and organize Canva brand templates, ensuring updated and ready-to-use templates for events, campaigns, and publications.

  • Refine and maintain GOGLA’s PowerPoint/Google Slides master brand template to ensure visual consistency across presentations.

  • Track published content and maintain documentation of communications outputs.

Why this matters: Strong digital organization ensures efficiency, brand consistency, and long-term knowledge management across the organization.

  1. Event Communications & External Coordination

  • Support pre- and post-event communications coordination, including liaising with photographers and external contributors.

  • Ensure event images are delivered, properly archived, tagged, and organized for future use.

  • Compile event photo highlights and curated thematic collections for internal and external use.

  • Assist in preparing communications materials related to events (presentations, recap posts, newsletters).

  1. CRM & Stakeholder Database Management

  • Update and maintain the communications point-of-contact (POC) list in the CRM.

  • Download and organize contact lists from Mailchimp .

  • Clean and segment databases to clearly identify donors, funders, members, partners, and other stakeholder groups.

  • Label and categorize contacts to improve audience targeting and campaign effectiveness.

  • Organize press and media lists as needed.

Why this matters: Clean, well-segmented stakeholder databases are critical for strategic communications, fundraising visibility, and member engagement.

  1. Digital & Website Support

  • Monitor basic communications metrics (open rates, engagement, downloads).

  • Compile simple performance reports to support team insights.

  • Provide general administrative support to the Communications team.

  • Prepare briefing documents and support internal content meetings.

  • Assist with media monitoring and identification of relevant industry news.

About you

You've just finished your degree - or you're about to - in something like Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, Marketing, Media, International Relations, or maybe you don’t have a degree but have an interest in these fields.

The important things are:

  • You're organised

  • Resourceful

  • You care about the details

  • You're comfortable finding your way around a shared drive or a spreadsheet without needing someone to guide you through every step

  • You’re fluent in English and have had experience working with people from all walks of life (yes, classroom experience absolutely counts).

  • You want to take that energy and do something meaningful. Whether it's solar energy, climate, global development, or just the idea that the work you do Monday to Friday should actually mean something - you’re a bit of an idealist and the spark is there.

  • You’re ready to learn, and allergic to the phrase “that’s not what I do.”

  • Bonus points if you've ever posted on behalf of a brand, built something in Canva, sent a newsletter through Mailchimp, set up a photo archive, or find yourself obsessed with getting the margins perfectly aligned in a PowerPoint.

What is in it for you?

This isn't a "watch from the sidelines" kind of role. You'll be jumping into real communications work from the first days - keeping our digital presence sharp, supporting events, and helping manage the systems that keep a busy international team organised.

You'll learn how GOGLA operates across borders and time zones quickly. You'll build skills in content, brand, editorial workflows, and stakeholder communications. And you'll do it all with a team that's genuinely collaborative and will invest in helping you grow.

We’re a remote-fist organisation, but you’ll be able to join our small team in Valencia, working a couple of days per week from a shared office in a wonderful environment that includes yoga, a bookstore, and even a dog.
